Web browsers are the name given to the software applications that are used to display web pages over the internet or locally on a computer.

There are many web browsers available and many of them are available for free. The most popular are Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Safari.

Open source means the program code that is used to create the operating system is available to edit and re-distribute. Examples of the Linux operating system are; Red Hat, SUSE, Ubuntu.

Mac OS is the Macintosh Operating System is the second most commonly used operating system. It is often the most commonly used operating system used within the multimedia industry.

Mac is known for its reliability and the fact that there are very few viruses that have been created to affect it.

Windows is the most commonly used operating system and currently has around an 80% market share. It is often regarded as the easiest operating system to learn.

Due to the fact that Windows has the largest market share it has the widest range of products and software available.
